Win a Major Award
Congratulations to Becky K. from Meridian,
Idaho for winning last week's contest. Thanks to everyone who completed the survey. We got a lot of really good feedback that we will use to improve our site.
We still have one copy of A Sea of Red 2008 to give away. It's not Italian. Nor is it fragile. But it is a Major Award. Read on for details.
How to Win
With only days until the start of a new era in Husker football, let's talk about expectations.
What are your expectations for this year's team? What does success look like for the Huskers in 2008?
Leave your thoughts in the comments below for a chance to win.

I’ll kick things off.
I think success for the Huskers in 2008 looks like 7 wins, a Bowl Game and no losses by more than 21 points.
What say you?

Even though I’m *not* eligible to win that darn fine magazine…I’ll still give my expectations.
I’m happy with 9-3 and a bowl to be determined by whether or not NU participates in the Big 12 title game. Anything “Alamo Bowl or above” is great. No Shreveport for Christmas.
My hope against hopes is for NU to WIN THE NORTH! But, I’m not going to hang that on them, because it is a multi-variable situation.
8/19/2008
Success to me looks like a Big 12 North crown, but I’ll take a bowl victory with or without a north championship. Just give me an off season to feel good about!
8/19/2008
I expected at least a national championship if not 2-3 Heisman contenders (cody glenn, ADI KUNALI, Niles Paul )
If you couldn’t figure out all sarcasm.
8/19/2008
This season will be a success if we see good, solid football being played by those wearing helmets with a red “N” on them. That will take care of itself as far as wins/loses.
8/19/2008
I see 2 shutouts in the first 3 games and a total of 8 wins. But i will give it all up for one win on 10/04/08.
8/19/2008
I’ve looked at the schedule and I have to say that I think 6 wins are most probable. Seven is the fashionable pick but I’ll stick with 6. I am very interested in the NU-KSU game. Not alot of love there.

I’m copying this directly from another one of my posts:
“I too am a little nervous that the same verbiage used 4 years ago fits so well right now. That’s why my standards are simple: any significant improvement whatsoever in any statistical category (including wins) with little to no decline in any category (excluding wins). I don’t think we’re a worse team and I believe we have an easier schedule this year. We have to win 6 or better or I would consider Bo or the players a disappointment. What’s bare minimum is not what I want though. Bo and Co. have the tools to win 9. But will they? Probably not.”
Too bad I’m not eligible to win.

OU7 - you’re just waiting for KSU so you can give me a hard time for my previous comments! :-) It’s ok. If we lose, I’ll take whatever you’ll throw at me.

I’d have to go with Mr, B on this one. I want to see effort from start to finish in every single game on the defensive side of the ball. The wins and losses will take care of themselves, but I’d be ecstatic with 8-9 wins and a shot at the Big XII North title. I’m going to try to go to the KSU game and heckle, heckle, heckle! That could prove to be a pivotal game down the stretch.
8/19/2008
Well..I’m gonna have to go on the Kool-Aid drinking side.
Win them all except for Misery, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech.
9-3 is what I’m hoping for.
I’m expecting to maybe lose one other game though. 8-4 and good effort is still an amazing increase from last year though.
8/19/2008
I too am drinking the BO kool-aid. I believe 9-3 is doable 10-2 is fantastic. Less than 8 wins is beneath this team. Barring mass injuries.

BEAT MU!!!
8/19/2008
Eight wins would be marvelous. My expectations are NU will field a team that the faithful followers will be proud to cheer for, even if they take some lumps along the way. Living in KC, it would be really nice to have them beat KSU, KS, and MO.

Bo Pelini throws a least one big temper tantrum on the sideline…a bonus if its directed at an official. Thenarse rips Chase DanielS a new one on a Safety blitz that ensures DanielS can’t throw straight the rest of the game. With the help of a massive and athletic o-line, NU averages over 200 rushing yards a game. Lucky has a 1000 yard season. Gantz has a record breaking season in total yards run/pass in a season for a Husker qb. The Defense plays very hard and aggressive enough to keep us within 1 touchdown in every game we play. Cody Glenn leads the team in tackles. Barry Turner leads the team in sacks. Asante gets 12 pics for the season. As far as the wins and losses, I don’t really care this year. For me, its a Big 12 championship or National Championship or nothing. I think we all have to get used to getting back to expecting championships, not just good records and a bowl game - come on now - this is Nebraska! Not that I really expect a championship this year, but if not, then I really don’t care what our record is or if we go to a bowl. I just want to see us playing hard nosed football again and the championships will come.

Tom, naaaaaah, you just had a bad week (you had said). No harm, no foul. I just think KSU will really put up a good fight this year and not just roll over. I also have a feeling that SJSU will put up a good tussel. We’ll see, I guess.
8/20/2008
My expectations are 8-4, based purely on the home heavy schedule and my belief that Pelini can get the D into at least the top fifty. 9-3 would be success to me, especially if it means winning the north (unlikely) and/or going to a late December/January bowl game (slightly more likely).
8/20/2008
My expectations are 7-8 wins (no, not happy with that). A successful season, will come from a team that losses to W. Mich, to a team that finishes strong (unlike last year), with an “upset” win over KU and wins over KSU, CU, and the bowl opponent.
8/20/2008
I would have to say at least 7 wins for this team. I think .500 would be a disappointment. They should also make a bowl game, I want to see some RED in December! The offense should be able to run the ball very well this year which will only help the defense even more. I agree with Bill that we should expect championship caliber teams but for this year I will be happy with an 8-4 record and a bowl game.
8/20/2008
I’m feeling an 8-4 season with us losing only once in Oct. this time. Also Chase will be put on his ass ######## during the MU and we don’t duplicate the score from Norman 4 years ago.

1. What are your expectations for this year’s team?
I expect this team to play hard, play long, and play fair. I expect everyone from Bo to the ball boys to work in unison, not only for success and fun, but the respect associated with being a Nebraska Cornhusker as well.
2. What does success look like for the Huskers in 2008?
Success will look like a child on Christmas morning when they win. Giddy and appreciative.
Success may also look like a child that has just lost a puppy when they lose. Saddened and upset.
Either of these looks will show that a heartbeat is there, and that there is passion for the program, and for success.
Measurably…......
12-14 wins = A+ (Pipe dream)
10-11 wins = A (Great Scotch)
9 wins = A- (Good Canadian)
8 wins = B (Bass Ale)
7 wins = C (Bud)
6 wins = D (Coors Light)
< 6 wins = F (Any Coca-Cola product)
Including a bowl win, I would define success as a 9-4 season
Go Huskers!
Beat Missouri!

Great Expectations of a Husker Fan:
1) Every Husker playing hard and having fun!
2) Honesty from our coaches and players to the media and fans.
3) Powerful football play. Our chances of converting 3rd and short need to improve from the past era.
4) Leadership improvement from the captains & seniors to lead and motivate the rest of the team.
5) No Husker player, coach, fan, or commentator should feel be ashamed by game performance. The team will compete to its best, and even in a loss we can applaud the effort.
6) Protection and promotion of our Husker traditions: Blackshirts, Weight Lifting, and others…
8/20/2008
I expect to be entertained, like only the Cornhuskers can do it.
I expect a burst of confidence from the team approaching the confidence of the ‘95 team coming off the Orange Bowl, when they realized their coaches and system were the best. (And they themselves were, too.)
I also expect Bo to go ape $h*+, a time or two!
I expect to see looks of confusion from opponents, especially HCs and quarterbacks. I also expect to see their assistant coaches screaming at players trotting to the sideline, who act like they don’t see their ‘em.
I expect to have fun watching the team, again. Even the first three seasons of Callahan were fun, because the team was so different. The newness just amplified the interest.
I expect to discern an identity about the team, at some point into conference play.
I also expect an upset, for like the first time since when, ‘05 Buffy?
I expect 8-4, because the team has essentially undergone a heart transplant, complete with the rehabilitation work.
Plus, they’ll know Tom is in the press box watching intently!
