Twitter Blitz
It's Game Week One! So to kick off the fact that it's only a few days away from the home opener against Southern Miss, it is time for another twitter blitz. While the Golden Eagles have been a formidable opponent in the past, history weighs against them.
And with a hurricane looming on the horizon for the area, they may have other things on their mind.
Southern Miss altering its practice schedule because of Isaac http://www.southernmiss.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/082612aaa.html … #Huskers
From the Nebraska side of preparation this week, since there is no game time competition to spark talk, any topic or position is fair game.
There may be another QB battle brewing on the horizon next year, as depth at the position is still up for grabs.
Will QB Armstrong redshirt? TBD, Pelini said. "If we need him to win a championship, that's what we'll do." Concern is this year, not next.
Depth has been a concern for one area this off-season, at running back. But according to Bo Pelini, it is not a problem.
Bo: We're deeper and better at the RB position than a year ago. That's to Rex's benefit. #Huskers
Also a good sign this week, QB Taylor Martinez and his confidence level.
But it is not just Martinez garnering the attention for the confidence level. There are competitions all over the field, like potential center Justin Jackson.
Bo: Justin Jackson would probably be the starting center if we played today. #Huskers
There was praise for plenty of offensive players this week. Kenny Bell (who has improved blocking), Jamal Turner (who upped his game knowledge), Imani Cross (a freakish freshman, a man), Tommy Armstrong, and of course, Red Burkhead (who studies other backs, wants every snap, and wants a championship). Of course, everything is sunshine and roses before a game may be played. The best players will continue to see the praise heaped upon them by showing their ability to back up the words with gameday action.

Tom,
I think a stat more amazing than Nebraska winning 26 straight home openers is that Nebraska has played, since 1982, only 5 road games to begin the season.
3 games were ‘Kickoff Classic’ games (Ped State, West Virginia, and TAM) and the other 2 games were at Oklahoma State and at Iowa.
That is 32 years, counting games scheduled into the 2014 season.
Who knows, it may be a longer streak than that when future scheduling is completed.
I would stake my life savings that that has to be a record that no other team is even close to matching.

Love that Justin Jackson is the starting center. The guy is a bulldog. He plays o-line with a d-line mentality.
If Pensick can help at guard, that helps our depth there too. Reeves has been hurt and that has delayed him. Pensick gives them a capable body at guard.

26 straight home openers is an impressive stat no matter who you play or where you play. Beginning the season is tough for everybody, because you are BEGINNING the season, if it wasn’t there wouldn’t be slip ups like Appalachian State at Michigan or 2005 TCU at Oklahoma or when Oklahoma lost to BYU. We have seen that it can happen, no matter how bad or good the other team you play is. By the way, an equally interesting stat: Oklahoma is playing UTEP on Saturday, which is their first season opener outside the state of Oklahoma in 20 years, but I guess traveling to Tulsa is quite a sacrifice.

BigRedNOkc,
Yea so 1992 @ TTU, 1993 @ TCU, 1994 @ Syracuse didn’t count?
My point was that it was another Husker record and everyone knows Husker fans love their records.
Haaa, haaa.

Living in Oklahoma I’ve met tons of OU fans that love their records also. I would expect any fan of a tradional power to feel that way. Anyway I’m ready to get this thing started. GBR!!

I was reading this and forgot to type the word nearly. My mistake. I’m only human. But yeah, Oklahoma fans love records too, as we were all made well aware here last year over and over that they hold the longest active home winning streak in CFB…if I recall that was (Red) Raided or something. Thanks be to Doege I don’t hear that every day anymore.
