The Weekly Buzz

One of the biggest recruits in the country is interested in the Huskers and we've got a good shot at making an impression. Let's hope Bo's got good dinner conversation. Well the young recruit may be interested, but Boise State doesn't appear to be at this time. An offer has been on the table, but no word on whether they're going to accept a 2-for-1 deal. Let's hope that Bo Pelini is just as interested in coaching the team then in 2015 as he is now.

Does Owaaaaaa have the same ring as Suuuuuuh » Five star defensive end Owamagbe Odighizuwa has to come to Nebraska because I've already added his name to my spell checker. After meeting with Bo Pelini, Carl Pelini, and John Papuchis, he will have some thinking to do as he tries to weigh the pros and cons of coming to Nebraska versus staying in the Pac-10 (Oregon and UCLA being his top choices on the west coast). Time is getting closer and closer to signing day and excitement is building for this class. This would definitely be the biggest get of Pelini's career and would silence the critics of his regarding his recruiting abilities.

Red versus Blue » Boise State has not responded to a proposal from the Nebraska athletic department for a 2-for-1 series. Reportedly, BSU is wanting $1 million to play at Lincoln. That might be a pretty steep price to pay for a low return on investment. The games wouldn't even be played for the next five seasons. Who knows what each program will look like at that time.

Soul searching news season » This is one of those slow news season cycles where writers start to think about the long term future instead of the medium term. LJS is talking about building equity over the long haul. BRN is talking about character and loyalty. We'll talk about real stuff, real soon as commits and decommits start rolling in across the Big 12.

Trouble brewing on the horizon » New Kansas Jayhawks football coach Turner Gill is slowly contacting his old recruiting stomping grounds. Will this cause any problems in the future? Let's hope not.

Does Owamagbe Odighizuwa (thanks, cut and paste) want to play near his mom, which is a big consideration, or attempt to become a college football legend, like local contemporary, big Suh?

He’s already projects out to pro level ability. He’ll get good coaching and all around growth, at Oregon, or wherever.

Does he want a unique challenge and opportunity? If he wants to get as close as possible to reaching he college potential, team and individually, and that’s his prime consideration, then he’ll be the capstone on an otherwise average (good) Nebraska class.

To finish up with him, Carnes and Cooper would put this class in the category of Osborne’s ‘96 and ‘97 classes.

While I appreciate the Boise Boyz and I luv that rug, they don’t have the bank roll, at the big table. They’re dealing with about the most accommodating and understanding schedule guy, they’ll ever interact with.

They’re a fantastic football program, I look for them every Thursday night, during the season!

They’re just not yet as invested.

Well, Boise State has shown their true colors (read: yellow) as their AD has gone on record as saying they won’t play us in 2011:

“Boise State is still searching for a high-profile opponent to complete its 2011 schedule. The opponent will not be Nebraska, Bleymaier said. “We’ve got some things in the hopper for ‘11. We just need to get those finalized,” Bleymaier said.”

For all their bellyaching, they sure can’t back up their talk.  Reminds me of TCU after they backed out on a 2 for 1 with Nebraska at the zero hour and then complained when they were marginalized in the NC race because of their SoS.

Seriously—put up or shut up, mid-majors.

@Matt—Boise offered Nebraska the 2011 game, not the other way around.  Nebraska declined that offer (Big Red sched was already tough enough in ‘11), but countered with a 2-for-1 offer starting in 2015, which is the ‘skers standard operating procedure for schools from non-BCS conferences.

I’d love to see the Nebraska/Boise series…Boise is a beautiful town.  The only problem is predicting how good the Broncos will be in 2015.  Petersen will definitely stay through 2011, but after that his stock should be high enough to get him any coaching vacancy he looks at.
