The Weekly Buzz
This is the week that we get to see what the Big 12 is made of. Five ranked Big 12 teams start their seasons on the road. Of the underdog home teams, Kansas State and Nebraska have the likeliest possibility to pull out an upset. Prepare to get nothing accomplished as you sit in front of the TV all day watching Big 12 football.
Oklahoma @ Baylor » Do I even need to predict something here? Sooners take it easy and win 45-10.
Texas Tech @ Kansas State » Fortunately for the Wildcats, the Red Raiders running game is not their strongest suit. Unfortunately, Texas Tech doesn't need a running game to blow the scoreboard up. There have been some question marks surrounding both of theses teams. We don't know what kind of team KSU really is yet. Texas Tech has just run down opponents, but much was expected of them before the beginning of the season. A convincing victory would give ammo for the voters to move them to a serious national championship discussion. K State gets downed 45-32.
Texas @ Colorado » Unless you're Eric Crouch, a team's quarterback usually shouldn't be the leading rusher. It's only OK for Texas because they have had the statistical oddity of winning 3 games by the same score of 52-10. A numbers guy like myself can forgive many football sins by pulling something like that off. It probably won't happen again this week, but it may not be far off. Colorado has no such rushing with their quarterback because they just don't need it. Their freshman monster Rodney Stewart is doing just fine in the running department. Until now. Texas is a monster on the run stopping. They should handle the Buffs on their own turf, 38-20.
Texas A&M @ Oklahoma State » The Cowboys have been notoriously bad in their conference openers and against Texas A&M in general. That's about to change this week. They have a balanced offensive attack and a solid enough defense, albeit a little passive up front. A&M this year has shown nothing impressive on the field and looking flat. Aggies get knocked down 48-17.
Kansas @ Iowa State » Reesing and the Jayhawk passing offense have been quite efficient at the short consistent game that has become his signature. If they get over the losses at the o-line from last year and jump start the running game, they will be the main competition for Missouri in the North. The Big 12 is league that you can't overlook any opponent, but Iowa State shouldn't be a challenge for KU. Jayhawks win 35-13.
Missouri @ Nebraska » Enough talk about this game. Nebraska has the best shot of any of the underdogs this week, but they have to actually show up and play in the first quarter. The realist in me calls for something like a 48-39 loss, but as usual, the fan in me always makes my favorite Husker predictions: 41-40 Go Big Red! Either way, expect a high flyin', action packed game.
