The Weekly Buzz
This week, the Huskers are playing a one-game playoff for the Big 12 North Division Championship. If playing Kansas State to win the division wasn't enough of a throwback, the Huskers have shown some sparks on the field in Power sets. The rushing attack has proved to be that something extra needed to win the last couple of weeks. Combined with the Ndamukong Suh led effort, and you've got an equation to beat the Wildcats this Saturday.
The only guy Bo Pelini needs advice from » If I were Coach Pelini, the only person I would ever take football advice from is Dr. Tom Osbourne. Fortunately, he even admitted that he would gladly welcome more input from this legendary, iconic, all around awesome guy. There is a definite influence from Dr. Osbourne as the resurgance of the Power running game has propelled the Huskers to wins against Oklahoma and Kansas.
Tired yet? » Apparently, fatigue sets in this late in the season. Do you think that would alter the Pelini's approach to practice? Not a chance.
Suh's his own biggest critic » With tiredness apparently a factor last week, Suh doesn't want to use it as an excuse, giving the D-line play an "F". At least his mind is in the right place, placing the team's results above any quest for piling up stats. Suh wasn't the only one who had concerns from last week's game, as many coaches and players had their own critiques about the effort against the Jayhawks.
Kansas State wants it all » It's an all-or-nothing type of game for the Wildcats on Saturday. Their whole season is defined by this game. It can either make for a dangerous opponent, desperate opponent, or both. They're probably going to take their shots by running at Suh. Good luck with that. The Huskers will be preparing for a team that has mixed around its pieces on offense, similar to Nebraska's efforts to get that "spark".
Senior Day » Not a lot of Seniors to be celebrated on this week's senior day, but the ones there deserve the applause and cheers that the fans are going to give them. The two quiet leaders, Jacob Hickman and Ndamukong Suh have let their actions do all their talking this year.
Recent developments... » Rex Burkhead and Mike McNeil expected to play on Saturday. Those two weapons will give Bill Snyder something to think about for the next 48 hours or so.

Does anyone care to discuss the substance of the article today? I’m pretty excited that Burkhead’s going to get a chance to play tomorrow. He was pretty electric on the field earlier this year. I think that he adds a dimension that is hard to game-plan for.

I wish I hadn’t used the phrases “all-or-nothing”, “one game playoff”, “winner take all”, or other variations for this weekend’s game. If I read another national article about the game with those phrases in it, I’m going to be sick.

Tom,
I agree Burkhead returning this week is a big boost. Just one more thing the kittens will have to game plan for. If he gets more than 5 or 6 touches I’ll be surprised but those few plays could be crucial. We went on a two game skid when he went down after the Mizzou game. There were other factors no doubt but this kid is a integral piece of this offensive puzzle.

“would gladly welcome more input from this legendary, iconic, all around awesome guy.”
You really wrote that?

I expect they’ll give Rex a few screens out of the backfield to get him going before pounding the interior line. You wonder if he would have been the one guy to hang on to the ball against ISU? That MU game was costly.
