The Weekly Buzz
The news this week sure has been interesting. If so many people are complaining about the lack of prominence involved with the NU-OU rivalry the past couple of years, then why has this game received so much coverage from local, regional, and national media? The fact of the matter is, there are some great players on both sides of the ball and this figures to be just as important as ever for the direction of the Big 12 this year. Both teams have superb defenses that are getting lots of press, and both have quarterbacks that weren't being mentioned at the beginning of the year.
Sooners aren't going to make it easy » On the Oklahoma side of the ball this weekend, there are a couple of key items that OU fans are looking to see from the Sooners. Gerald McCoy will be looking to hunt down Cody Green this weekend. Which is probably part of the reason that Shawn Watson will be down on the sideline to help settle and game plan for his quarterback. Green hopes to rely on his instincts to get him out of jams.
But after reading news sources in Oklahoma, it's pretty clear that plenty of eyes will be on the offensive line Saturday. Their line also helped put them in the hole with penalties last weekend, a hole that Receiver Ryan Broyles helped dig and get out of. He will be a player that the Huskers have to game plan for the whole night.
Congrats Cody Green! You're the next Tommie Frazier! » Does it make anyone else nervous when a true freshman after one mediocre start against Baylor gets to be the anointed savior of an offense on the slide? The Lincoln Journal Star calls him "cool". ESPN says he's "emboldened". And the Omaha World Herald thinks that NU is "counting on" guys like him.
Guess what, kid. You're supposed to beat Oklahoma in your second start. All by yourself. Forget the other 10 playing on the field, just go out and win it all on your own. And don't forget that Bo Pelini says he might not even have the starting job wrapped up this week. By the way, Zac Lee and Cody Green are still the bestest buds ever.
Jared Crick trying to avoid the blitz » Ok, avoiding the blitz is better suited for an offensive lineman, but apparently Crick is trying to get out of the way of the media blitz that had been previously focused on Ndamukong Suh since the beginning of the season. Suh's advise? Learn to embrace it. Like a big bear hug you're about to give opposing quarterbacks. Apparently the efforts of the two giants have even surprised defensive coordinator Carl Pelini. But getting compliments from Jason Peter? Even better.

Ideally, it would’ve been more apropos to have Green finish the season in learn mode, but losing to Iowa State will change the best of plans. A sports paradigm shift, if there ever was one.
So, Green gets trotted out against a shut down type D, equipped with maybe the least prepared supporting cast since ‘04’s flailing novices.
This is a better college offense, though. Cody has a fighting chance, moving forward.
Too bad Daily didn’t have the same accomodations.
The “die is cast” as Osborne pointed out after Callahan’s hiring.
Which is good. At this moment Nebraska still has much to shoot for, after this game. It’s still about this season and in this final 3rd of the season, I’d expect that the Offensive Coaches know what they have to work with and have a play list and a blocking/protections scheme tailored to it.
