Sizing Up Oklahoma State

Oklahoma_St.gif On paper, the Cowboys are something of a mirror image of the Huskers. They have a highly efficient quarterback, a big receiver that's given defenses fits, a stable of running backs that contribute, a high scoring offense, and a big and talented defensive line. Sound familiar?

The main difference has been the defense. After giving up 10 or fewer points in their first three games, the Cowboys have given up an average of nearly 33 points per game to Houston, Kansas State, Kansas, and Texas A&M. The Cowboys start two underclassmen (including a true freshman) at outside linebacker and two more in the secondary. Aside from the smallish freshman linebacker, the Cowboys have good size, but have yet been able to keep good (or even average) teams from running the football. In the Big XII, the Cowboys rank 9th in rushing defense. They also rank 9th in total defense, and scoring defense and 11th in pass efficiency defense.

Still, they have an offense that has been hard to stop. They rank second in the Big XII in rushing offense, pass efficiency, total offense, and scoring offense. They are also 1st in kick return average and 3rd in punt return average.
