Quick Hits from K-State
I've offered my first-person account of things from Saturday, and Steve has placed the game in the proper context. But, here are a few more random thoughts from the Husker win over KSU, as my mind gets switched back in to the "on" position.
Great moment in Husker history, as NU gets its 800th win. Only 4 other teams in the country have met that milestone. That is a rare and impressive club. One of the members - Texas - shows up at NU's door this week.
On a smaller note, NU got bowl-eligible on Saturday. Nice to have that sewn up as the Huskers stay on pace with their stated goal - winning the Big 12 North
Kansas - great roads, bad football. Nebraska - bad roads, great football.
Bill Snyder Family Stadium is just as unimpressive as it was before they re-named it. And, Harley Day at KSU is just as cheesy and dumb as it was the first time I saw it two years ago. Thankfully, 800-win teams don't have to resort to such measures.
From around the country - Georgia lost (to Vandy, at home). Florida lost a tough one. Iowa lost (to Indiana!). I was pleased to see A&M beat Missouri. OU won but lost their best player for the year. Colorado finally got a win. Kansas is imploding. Miami is a disgrace.
For the second straight week, it was pretty clear to me that NU had more good players than a North opponent. That's good to see and was not always the case since 2002. Sure, coaches matter, but it is the players who make plays. Maybe NU is getting over the talent hump.
The color purple looks good...on my 6-month old daughter. What? Seriously, she looks adorable in her purple pants and lavender top.

Darren,
Let’s not forget a few more things about the trip to Manhattan.
First, the traffic is AWFUL. We walked from the stadium to Aggieville, and zoomed passed gridlocked cars.
Second, cell phone service is spotty at best.
Third, while at the game, Darren and I noticed many Purple People leaving early upon failed 3rd down conversions early in the 4th quarter.
Fourth, while after the game at a bar (Pat’s Blue Rib’n) one K-St. fan informed me that Nebraska won because of luck. Sure, pal.
Fifth, I would assume that DWI’s in Manhattan are often occurring. When leaving the bars at 2am we asked a waitress to call a cab for us, she promptly threw a phone book at Darren’s wife. We stood in line for a cab for approx 45 minutes, then were given a ride home by a bartender, who was a Longhorn fan, by the way.
Sixth, I would assume that Grand Theft Auto’s in Manhatten are often unoccurring. My rational: upon my drunken stupor when getting back to the hotel, I unlocked my car door to grab a pillow and blanket, and forgot to take the keys out of the lock. Searched the hotel room high and low the next morning then found my keys (soaked from the rain) in the lock. Thank you for not stealing my car.
See you in 2008.

I would like to hear some comments about Josh Freeman’s statement from the OWH. His comment was that he thought some of NU’s hits on him were “unnecessary”.
