Quarterback Commits to Nebraska’s Class of 2013
Johnny Stanton, a California quarterback, gave Nebraska his commitment today. He's rated a four-star prospect by 247 Sports and ESPN. Stanton had offers from Oregon, Wisconsin, California, Utah, and Washington, among others. Stanton is a sturdy 6'2" and 220 lbs. He's considered a dual-threat player who passed for over 2,400 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushed for over 1,500 yards with 25 touchdowns.
Stanton also played safety in high school, but it seems clear his future at Nebraska will be at quarterback. Stanton spent time working out with current Husker QB Taylor Martinez in California recently and the quarterback coach they share.
Stanton said he intends to help Nebraska recruit other players. Whether that pans out or not, the NU coaching staff has to be pleased to have landed a worthy quarterback for the class. And the Huskers may not have to worry about seeing him in a Badger uniform.
Stanton will have time to redshirt and then be in line to compete for the starting job in 2014 with four years of eligibility.

By virtue of his excellent on-field results (Cali state champs), his high profile nationally (Elite 11), his position (QB!), his style of play, and who NU beat to get him (eat it, Wisconsin), Stanton may be the most important member of the 2013 recruiting class to date.
Husker fans - it’s time to start being very optimistic about this overall class. Half way through, it looks like a *rock solid* group on D, and Stanton will bring some momentum on O. They are ahead of schedule, and in a good position (#20 nationally) with some very high profile players still on the board and ready to be wooed in mid-season.
It’s a very good day for Husker recruiting.

Hes a great pick up that really looks to have the “it” factor.. from what i understand hes only been a starting qb for a season so he still has an upside there. Also a finalist in elite eleven is big… the kid has alot of upside yet on top of already being good.. heres to hoping he can talk some cali guys into joining him… mathis. Newby..quess.. hinnant ... harlow.. and maybe even get to hanlon from rockhurst to watch his blindside.go big red! N keep it up!

There is an article on Bleacher Report today outlining the top 10 “gunslingers” in the nation and Johnny Stanton is #6! Wow!
This is a HUGE pickup for the Huskers and I think proves something…these guys can recruit after all! That, and with Pelinis success in bringing in top guys from the Juco ranks, I think we’ll be fine. What we need now is monster (or two) DT’s to make our D line dominating again and we’ll be fine. We do have 2, 4 star DE’s coming in so that’s good. A monster lock down corner would be good too, but maybe not with Seasay coming in.
The guy scored 25 TD’s on the ground! More than through the air! And this guy can pass the football! Ya, he’s a Nebraska type of player…he runs into people!
Our class has a chance of ending up in the top 15…not bad!
GBR!!!
