Not Looking Forward to Saturday

It's not often I find myself dreading a Nebraska game, but truthfully I look forward to the game against the Red Raiders with no anticipation. Thank God I'm not a football coach.

Four years ago the Huskers suffered their worst beatdown…ever? And yet, there's some sentiment that things could go as badly or worse. The 2007 Husker defense looked even worse than the 2004 version, and last week the 2008 version appeared as bad as it did a year ago. So a return trip to Lubbock doesn't exactly scream win for Nebraska.

Except for one thing. The Huskers have fallen so far in recent years that Texas Tech could be looking past this game. If USC can be upset by teams like Stanford and Oregon State, why can't a wounded animal like Nebraska catch the Red Raiders sleeping? Do you think Texas Tech is really worried about this game?

It's sad to pin your hopes on the fact that your opponent will have so little regard for you that you might be able to steal a win on that basis. But that's where things stand today. But hey, next week is Iowa State!

I’m having a little trouble getting excited as well. But once game time rolls around I’ll be right there, in front of my TV.

The weather is going to be another wild card in this game. The game day forecast calls for storms and high winds.

Time to break out that power running game?

Is Thenarse available? We need everything we can get on defense. Those short routes have killed us this year and I foresee Harrell dinking us to death. Hope I’m wrong.

I am looking forward to this game, but more so for the Iowa State game.  I haven’t seen the Cornhuskers play live since 1977, so this year, I treated myself to a pair of tickets for the Iowa State game next week.  I live in Green Bay, and it seems impossible to find the time to travel to Lincoln for a game, so I will wear my colors proudly, and cheer my team on in Ames.  I don’t realistically think we have a shot this weekend, but I will continue to pull for our guys.  I think we are headed in the right direction, and with patience and hard work, we will get our game back on the top.  Until then, they do say that everyone loves an underdog, right?  Go Huskers!

First off, I feel your pain, Steve.  I think it’s games like this where our fans prove we’re the best in the country.  How easy is it to cheer for a team that dominates every opponent every year?  When, not if, we get out of this slump, we will be so much better mentally and physically in regards to coaching and playing.  Until you go through something like this, nobody knows for sure if you can get all the way through it.  The conference is more competitive, sure.  But that just makes it that much easier to vote NE into the title game when we continually play 3 of the top 10 in our regular season (or perhaps by the time we get all the way back, the BCS will dissolve and we can get a good ol’ playoff going…but that’s an argument for another post, I think…haha)

Anyways, I’ll be watching this one for sure, and I look forward to commenting live with you guys again come saturday if you continue to keep that going.

GO BIG RED!
