Nebraska Shuts Out Troy, 56-0

Nebraska showed no signs of a let down following their loss to Southern California last week in dismantling the Troy Trojans on Saturday night in Lincoln, 56-0. The Cornhuskers compiled nearly 600 yards of total offense and recorded their first shutout of the year in moving their record to 3-1 on the year. Troy falls to 1-3 with all three losses coming on the road to teams from BCS conferences.

Nebraska's dominance on offense was fueled by a potent rushing attack that produced 316 yards rushing, and had two running backs top the 100-yard mark. Marlon Lucky led the way with 156 yards on just 10 carries, highlighted by scoring runs of 34, 45 and 51 yards. Kenny Wilson added 106 yards and two touchdowns from his 19 carries and Brandon Jackson produced 60 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Cody Glenn was apparently hampered by a hamstring injury and did not play, though he was suited up.

Zach Taylor had another very efficient day throwing the football. Taylor connected on 14 of 17 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown. Taylor was also intercepted once. The interception was Taylor's first in 84 attempts. Backups Joe Ganz and Beau Davis both saw action in the second half, with Ganz going 2-of-6 throwing for 13 yards and a touchdown. Davis did not attempt a pass.

Nebraska's receivers were led by Terrance Nunn's 106 yards on 4 receptions. Nate Swift caught 3 balls for 79 yards and Maurice Purify got 45 yards on two receptions. Tight end J.B. Phillips had the only touchdown reception.

Nebraska's defense pitched its first shutout of the season. The Blackshirts held Troy's spread passing attack to just 140 total yards, 96 passing and 48 rushing. Troy quarterback Omar Haugabook was sacked 4 times and harassed, hurried and hit often by the NU defensive front seven. Haugabook finished 12-of-21 passing with an interception. Tierre Green led the Huskers with seven tackles. Ndamukong Suh, Jay Moore, Barry Cryer and Ola Dagunduro combined to get NU's 4 sacks, and Andrew Shanle got his first interception of the season.

Nebraska dominated the game early and consistently, scoring 14 points in each quarter. Troy Coach Larry Blakeney was asked to assess what happened, and referenced Troy's previous close losses to two Atlantic Coast Conference schools, "I don't know when I've been around getting thrashed quite like that," Blakeney said. "We played pretty well against Florida State. We played pretty well against Georgia Tech. But this bunch of guys here, with their style of play and physical approach, presented us with more than we could handle."
