Husker Haiku: Western Michigan

As loyal readers know, I love to preview football games. This season, I'm feeling just bit more pretentious or artistic for some reason. Maybe it's too much coffee or because I started reading articles in The New Yorker. Or maybe it is just my liberal arts education rearing its head. In any case, I'm going to take a swing at previewing this season's games using haiku.

What? You're not in to Japanese poetry forms? That's shocking. Well, if you follow the punctuation, you can read them like sentences. Hey, you might just enjoy the merger of football and poetry. If not, we'll be providing plenty of paragraph-style analysis too. Now, on to this week's Husker Haiku...

Night games in Lincoln
Are truly something special.
No tix? Hit the bar.

Western Michigan,
It's time to get things started.
Folks, it's BO time now!

So many questions -
How will the Blackshirts tackle?
Will NU run more?

Stopping the spread "O"
Is a theme for this year.
This is the first test.

Ganz under center,
And Huskers have beef up front.
NU ball control!

Bo gets his first win.
And the Huskers beat the spread -
Thirty five, fourteen.

Do or do not.

There is no try.

Wait, that’s Yoda not haiku. My bad.

Our past haiku posts have generated some fun comments.

Can’t wait to see what folks chime in with. Come on, get your 5-7-5 on!

Callahan is gone

Bo will bring Nebraska back

Broncs lose by 20

Time to strap it on

And dish out plenty of pancakes

O line is starving

We will run all day

200 yards plus rushing

And more through the air

Offense can’t be stopped

The Big Red machine will roll

42 or more

Defense will impress

24 and no more scored

Black shirts once again

I don’t do haiku. It starts out okay, then ends with screaming.

Kind of like about everyone else I do this time of year.

Nice stuff.

Nebraska will win.

Some think style points should count.

It’s about Red N.

Joe Ganz is da bomb.

Defense will be back in style.

In your face Broncos.

Unlike a wolf pack,

We mark our territory,

By smashing you in.

Huskers win with class

Each time they drop back to pass

Three put on his…butt

42-17
