Blogpoll Ballot Week 1
As you may recall, we at the Big Red Network have been invited to vote in a weekly college football top 25 poll at http://mgoblog.blogspot.com/
These rankings are heavily influenced by this weekend's action (the only action of the 2007 season). Do I think Tennessee and Michigan might climb back into the rankings? Of course. Are Georgia Tech and Nebraska really top ten teams? Probably not, but they looked like one of the ten best on Saturday. So consider this part ballot, part protest of polls that come out before October.
#1 LSU - Defense pitches a shutout in SEC opener 45-0 over Mississippi St.
#2 USC - Trojans not nearly as impressive as you'd expect against a team that was 4-8 a year ago.
#3 Florida - Gators dominate W. Kentucky in game shortened by lightning 49-3.
#4 Louisville - Brohm averages 18 yards per passing attempt as the Cardinals bury Murray State 73-10
#5 Oklahoma - Sooners new quarterback shines in 79-10 victory over North Texas
#6 West Virginia - Mountaineers offense impresses, defense doesn't in 62-24 win over Western Michigan
#7 Cal - Scored the win of the day over Tennessee but defense looked soft at times
#8 Georgia - Answered questions on both sides of the ball versus Oklahoma St.
#9 Georgia Tech - Dominated a Notre Dame teaming coming off a BCS bowl 30-3
#10 Nebraska - Total domination of a bowl opponent
#11 Penn State - Huge numbers against a nobody
#12 Ohio State - If you can't rush for four yards per carry against Youngstown St., what will happen in the Big 10
#13 Wisconsin - Good win over mediocre Pac-10 squad
#14 Hawaii - They seem likely to start 10-0
#15 Boise St. - Seem likely to win 10 or more games as well.
#16 Boston College - No rushing game in win over Wake
#17 Rutgers - Easy win over bad Buffalo team
#18 Texas - What was that Mack Brown?
#19 Va. Tech - Run game looked terrible versus ECU
#20 Texas A&M - Easy win over bad team
#21 TCU - Defense shines in shutout of Baylor
#22 Arkansas - Decent win over Troy
#23 UCLA - Bruins finally show they belong
#24 Clemson - Can't be too far behind the Bruins if they beat FSU
#25 Auburn - Tigers offensive line play just offensive, thankfully KSU has a Joe Dailey clone at QB

It will be interesting to see if this plays out in the polls later today as it has here but I wonder when the last time neither FSU or Michigan were ranked.

Pretty good analysis.
Here’s how I see it:
LSU-USC-OK-FL-GA-Louie-CA-TX-WV-NE-UCLA-WI-PSU-OSU-ARK-TAM-RUT-Clem-GT-VT-TN-AU-HI-MI-TTech-BC-MO-Smurfs-TCU(whatever).
#116 Coach Turtleneck Pant’s team.

Will know more after week 2, but I forgot to put MIA in there about #20 behind AU.

Well, now that Meechee-goons have fallen completely out of both polls to have a group hug with their bros, the Naughty Domers…pause, for ridiculous laughter…I guess it’s only fitting to shove O Ducks(and their ‘happy’ unis) up there, say 20-25 spot. I had forgotten them earlier as well.
Big Red moves to 16 AP and 17 Coaches, which is a good spot to be. Hopefully they won’t drop us out again—like last year—should we fall to the Mighty Condoms. But after our showing against NV, I feel more confident about NE pulling the upset over SC.
Wake’s a lock.

I like this poll better than most. LSU was clearly the best team in the country last week, and I think the Huskers performance was top 10 as well.
But in this scenario, Texas and Texas A&M shouldn’t even be rated after being outgained by 1-AA or Sun Belt (should be 1-AA) teams. In fact, I’d put Kansas into the top 20.

Husker Mike,
I toyed with dropping Texas entirely. The A&M score wasn’t quite so embarrassing. Even with a heavy emphasis on last week, it’s hard not to some carryover based on last season’s results and off-season expectations. You could drop Va. Tech out, based on that game against East Carolina but you figure that they may have been emotionally spent. Likewise, Texas and USC were probably disinterested. It goes without saying we’ll learn more as the season moves along.
