Offseason Storm Chasing 6 comments

This has absolutely nothing to do with football, but those who have grown up in Nebraska can appreciate the power of weather. As a meteorologist, the best learning tool for forecasting is by observing weather first hand. One of my favorite pastimes other than Nebraska Football is storm chasing. I began as soon as I got my driver's license 10 years ago. Since then, I have seen 12 tornadoes and numerous supercells and hailstones. As part of my job at Mississippi State, I have the pleasure of being an instructor on the school's Great Plains Storm Chase trip. We just finished the 2007 version and it was quite successful.

April showers bring May flowers. But what about April SNOW showers? It means FOOTBALL! It is the middle of April and as any Nebraskan knows: If you don't like the weather, wait a day.
Expected Temperatures on Saturday:
| Morning: | Upper 30s - 40s |
| Kickoff: | About 45 |
| Afternoon: | Upper 40s - 50 |
It appears that light snow could fall overnight Friday night but should move out by 6 AM Saturday morning.
Weather forecast for Big 12 and Top 25 games 0 comments
For the first time in 12 weeks, I will have to figure out how to spend a Saturday. The previous 11 have been laid out for me by television executives. Several of them actually required that I set an alarm clock to get up in time. Others required that I wait all day in severe anticipation.
Of course it is never to early to begin preparing for a football game. As I mentioned in last week's forecast, we have been in an up-and-down pattern. It gets unseasonably warm for a few days, a strong front moves through, and then 2 days of raw weather. After a cool down this week, it looks like we are about to warm up nicely for Thanksgiving. Right now it looks like Friday will be a little cooler, but we should still see temps in the 50s or 60s. I'll be following it closely throughout the week.
This weekend I will be able to focus on other games, including the hyped showdown between #1 vs #2. For those of you wanting to get weather information for the Big 12 and Top 25 games this weekend...here you go!
